2 | After Jack.(John Henry) and Nellie married he volunteered for the army in WW1. When he left for France Nellie was pregnant and gave birth to her son Jack in May 1916. Jack senior was given compassionate leave to visit his wife and son. When he returned to France he was sent straight back to the front line near Ypres. lnstead of the letter Nellie had been expecting, she received a telegram to say her husband had died of wounds inflicted in battle. John Henry is commemorated in Christ Church, Chesterfield, he is buried in a smalltown called Ballieul which is about 12km from Ypres. | Dannatt, John Henry (I0105)

13 | Reported in Courier Newspaper on Saturday 27th May 1916 A sensation was caused in the village on Monday morning when it became known that one of the oldest members of the Heath Unit of Home Guards, Mr Owen Polin, had passed away suddenly during the night. The deceased was well and about as usual on Sunday evening but died suddenly about midnight, having burst a blood vessel. At the funeral on Wednesday, the local Home Guards turned out almost to a man to pay their last respects to their old comrade. His uniform cap was placed on he coffin. The members of the Corps sent a beautiful wreath inscribed “With deepest Sympathy from the officers and members of the Heath Unit of Home Guards”. The last rites were conducted by the Rev. 14 | The Nottinghamshire Guardian May 3rd 1849 John Polin On 26th April 1849 inquest before the Town Coroner at the Horse & Chaise. On the body of John Polin, infant son of Owen Polin of Kent Street, Travelling Draper. The deceased had been unwell since it's birth and on the morning of the inquest was found dead in bed. 15 | Thomas married Emily (Peggy) Brown in 1945 and got sent to Burma almost immediately. He wasn't a prisoner of war but was separated from his regiment during a fierce battle and he and several others were reported missing presumed dead. When the Americans took Burma from the Japanese they were all found, more dead than alive. Tommy had one of his lungs removed on the hospital ship and recuperated in Calcutta and Johannesburg then back to this country. He had TB. He died in 1951. | Dannatt, Thomas (I276)
